Info

For SmartServer 4.1 and prior, see Configuring the Network (Release 4.1 and Prior).

This section describes the network settings that are necessary for the SmartServer IoT Starter Kit. A basic network setup is described in the SmartServer IoT Getting Started video. The Starter Kit uses a more complex configuration requiring connections to two TCP/IP network segments in order to allow the BACnet MSTP router to be accessed using its default network setup (the BACnet configuration is described in the Setting up the BACnet Channel section).

To make the necessary WAN / LAN cable connections for the SmartServer IoT Starter Kit, perform the following steps:

  1. Connect the SmartServer IoT WAN port using the CAT-6 Ethernet drop to your local area network that supports DHCP. The WAN (eth1) connection is assumed to be attached to a network that has a DHCP server. If you have access to the DHCP server, you can determine the IP address of the SmartServer IoT by logging onto the router administrator page and looking up the MAC address of your SmartServer in the DHCP address allocation page. The MAC address affixed to the SmartServer is for the LAN/eth0 port. The WAN (eth1) MAC address increments the last hex digit by 1. If your PC and the SmartServer share the same network subnet, you can find your SmartServer using https://hostname.local in your browser URL. A network that includes a local DNS will resolve your SmartServer IoT without the .local part of the host name.

    Note
Note: The hostname is smartserver-[SID], where the SID is labeled on the left side of the SmartServer. For example: smartserver-17q4ns1.

You can also determine your SmartServer IP address by entering the following command shown below in a Windows command prompt: ping -4 [hostname].local.

    NoteNote: This

. This command may not work if your PC is on WiFi and the SmartServer is on one of the router Ethernet ports. Success of mDNS across media is highly router dependent.

    Also, as

    Code Block
    ping -4 [hostname].local

As described in the Getting Started video, an mDNS client needs to be running on your PC. Confirm that you have Bonjour installed on your PC in the Programs and Features directory as shown in the figure below. If you are using a Mac, this service is available as part of the OS.

Optionally, you can connect your PC to the WAN (eth1) port of the SmartServer IoT. With your PC configured with the static address 192.168.2.10, you should have access to the SmartServer configured to your address 192.168.2.222.

  2. Connect the SmartServer IoT LAN port to the switch behind the panel. The LAN segment is configured with a static subnet (192.168.92.x) to be compatible with the default configuration of the Contemporary Controls BASRT-B BACnet IP to BACnet MSTP router that is statically assigned 192.168.92.68. The Contemporary Controls login is admin / admin.

To support access to the BACnet MSTP Viconics 7200 thermostat, a Contemporary Controls BASRT-B, BACnet Router is configured to use its default 192.168.92.68 address.  To reach this device, the SmartServer IoT Network Configuration page requires specific settings as described in the following steps with your SmartServer WAN/eth1 port connected to a DHCP managed network:

  1. Log into the SmartServer configuration UI using the username and password that Open the SmartServer Configuration page as described in Accessing the SmartServer Configuration Page (log in as user apollo with the password that appears on the SmartServer IoT).
Select the the Network tab, and configure
