Changing the SmartConnect User Passwords

Changing the SmartConnect User Passwords

SmartConnect is available with SmartServer 4.2 and higher.

For SmartServer 4.4 and higher, the default SmartConnect CMS username and password is apollo / apollo

For SmartServer 4.3 Update 1 and prior, the SmartConnect CMS password for the default apollo and admin user accounts is configured in the smartserver.ini file with the SmartConnect installation. The password that is defined in the smartserver.ini file does not  have any effect on the Raspberry Pi OS / SmartConnect Configuration page password. This section describes how to change SmartConnect CMS user passwords.

Since enhanced security is enabled by default for the SmartConnect, you will be prompted to change the password to meet stronger password requirements when you first log in. This section describes how to set a stronger password that meets enhanced-security password requirements. To disable enhanced security, see Configuring Security (Authentication Method).

The SmartConnect OS user accounts and Configuration page login accesses (default user apollo, as set in the Install the Raspberry Pi OS for SmartConnect section) are not configured with the CMS Users widget, but are managed through the SmartConnect Configuration page as with all other OS operations. The SmartConnect Configuration page internally uses the Raspberry Pi OS user accounts. The OS is fully client-owned and configured and there is no synchronization between the SmartConnect CMS user and OS user accounts. This section also describes how to change the Configuration page and SSH login password using the SmartConnect Configuration page Accounts tab as an example.

This section consists of the following:

Setting a Strong Password for Enhanced Security

Enhanced security is enabled by default for the SmartConnect. If you want to lighten the requirements for setting passwords, you can disable this feature as described in the Configuring Security (Authentication Method) section.

When you fist log into the SmartConnect CMS with a password that does not meet the strong, enhanced-security password requirements, you will see the Change Password dialog box.

The Change Password dialog box requires that you set a new password containing at least 14 characters and including each of the following:

  • An uppercase letter ( A-)

  • A lowercase letter ( a-z )

  • A number ( 0, 1, 2, 3, 456, 7, 8, 9 )

  • A special character; there are no constraints with regards to special characters that are used.

The password must conform to the following restrictions:

  • Systematic characters (e.g., 1234 and other commonly guessed character patterns) are not allowed.

  • The New Password and Confirm New Password entries must match.

  • The New Password cannot match any one of the last five passwords.

To reveal the disguised password characters, click the Show Password button (image-20250210-205750.png).

To store the new password, click Save.

For SmartServer 4.3 Update 1 and prior, this password change does not effect the password setting in the smartserver.ini file.
