SmartServer Getting Started

The SmartServer Platform is a secure, open, extensible, and multi-protocol platform for the Internet of Things (IoT). You can use the SmartServer Platform to configure, manage, and supervise edge devices using multiple IoT protocols including BACnet, EnOcean, LON, LoRaWAN, and Modbus. You can also use the SmartServer Platform to connect data from these devices with enterprise and cloud applications.

The following SmartServer Platform products are available from EnOcean:

  • SmartServer IoT – a hardware platform including the SmartServer Platform software. The hardware is based on an ARM Cortex A9 processor and includes Ethernet and USB interfaces to provide connectivity to edge devices, workstations, enterprise applications, and cloud applications. An RS-485 interface for Modbus RTU is available as an option. The software includes a web-based SmartServer Manager for configuring the SmartServer IoT.

  • SmartConnect – SmartServer Platform software for Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 compatible hardware with a minimum of 8 GB RAM, including hardware based on Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 Compute Modules. SmartConnect includes a web-based SmartServer Manager for configuring the SmartServer Platform.

  • SmartSupervisor – SmartServer Platform management software for servers based on Intel or AMD x64 processors supporting Ubuntu software containers. SmartSupervisor configures, manages and supervises multiple SmartServer IoTs and SmartConnect instances. It includes all the capabilities of the SmartServer Manager included with the SmartServer IoT and SmartConnect, providing a single interface to multiple SmartServer IoTs and SmartConnects.

See SmartServer 101 for an introduction to the SmartServer Platform and EnOcean’s products for the platform.

To get started with the SmartServer Platform, follow these steps. The first step includes initial setup that is specific to the SmartServer IoT, SmartConnect, and SmartSupervisor. The remaining steps describe tasks that apply to all three.

Once you have completed these steps, refer to the following topics in the SmartServer User's Guide.
