SmartServer 3.4 and higher releases

For SmartServer 3.4 and higher releases, see (Optional) Switch Off LON Management

For LON devices, the SmartServer provides two network management modes called LON Device Management Mode (DMM) and LON Independent Management Mode (IMM). In LON DMM, the SmartServer manages the configuration of all LON devices provisioned by the SmartServer. In LON IMM, the SmartServer acts as an independent device in the LON network, and you must provide a network management tool such as the IzoT Commissioning Tool (CT) to manage the network configuration of the LON devices. DMM is the default setting where the SmartServer manages the LON devices in the network. When operating in DMM, all the internal LON routers in the SmartServer are configured by the SmartServer and function as repeaters. In IMM, the SmartServer does not configure its internal routers and they must be configured with the independent network management tool.

If you will be using your SmartServer on a LON network managed by another network manager such as the IzoT Net Server or LNS Server, or if you will be using your SmartServer solely as an IP-852 router or an LNS Remote Network Interface (RNI), switch to LON Independent Management Mode (IMM) as described on this page. Example network management tools include the IzoT CT and LonMaker tool.

Note: In DMM, using both IzoT CT and the SmartServer CMS to add devices to their own networks is not supported.

Switching LON Management Mode

  1. If you defined any LON device interfaces or LON devices prior to switching off LON management mode, delete the interface and device definitions as described in Provisioning Devices or delete all definitions as described in Resetting the SmartServer to Factory Defaults.

  2. To set the LON management mode, click the Action button () on the Devices widget.

  3. Select the Switch to LON Device Management Mode or Switch to LON Independent Management Mode action as appropriate for your system.

  4. Click YES in the Confirmation dialog box to confirm the management mode change.
