SMART ACK Mailboxes

Data that is communicated from the SMART ACK Controller to the SMART ACK Sensor is temporarily stored in a SMART ACK Mailbox at the SMART ACK Postmaster (which might either be the SMART ACK Controller or a SMART ACK Repeater).

Each SMART ACK Postmaster holds two SMART ACK Mailbox types:

  • Setup Mailbox
This Mailbox is dedicated for the setup of SMART ACK communication and holds the response to the SMART ACK Learn request from the SMART ACK Sensor.
There is exactly one Setup Mailbox in a system supporting SMART ACK functionality.

  • Data Mailboxes
These Mailboxes hold the data intended for SMART ACK Sensors.
The SMART ACK implementations on TCM 310 and TCM 515 both provide 19 Data Mailboxes.

Each SMART ACK Data Mailbox is dedicated for the communication between one specific SMART ACK Controller and one specific SMART ACK Sensor. SMART ACK Data Mailbox cannot be shared dynamically between different SMART ACK Sensors or different SMART ACK Controllers. This approach avoids run-time issues for dynamic sharing schemes where SMART ACK Data Mailboxes might be unexpectedly unavailable due to use by another SMART ACK Controller - SMART ACK Sensor pair.

This means that if a SMART ACK Sensor receives data from more than one SMART ACK Controller, then there will be one SMART ACK Data Mailbox allocated for each SMART ACK Controller communicating with this SMART ACK Sensor. Likewise, if a SMART ACK Controller communicates with more than one SMART ACK Sensor, then there will be one SMART ACK Data Mailbox allocated for each SMART ACK Sensor with which the SMART ACK controller communicates.
