The You can replace an i.LON 700 can be replaced with a SmartServer IoT plus a U60 FT or U60 TP-1250 interface.

The examples below show how to use the SmartServer IoT as a direct replacement for two different i.LON 700 use-cases.

. The i.LON 700 supports two types of LON interfaces.  The first is a LON remote network interface (RNI).  The seconds is a LON router.  To configure the SmartServer to use a LON RNI or IP-852 routing, see Adding a LON Interface. For SmartServer IoT release prior to 2.7 Update 1, go to the Features Configuration tab.

The SmartServer IoT can be used as a direct replacement of the the installed LON repeater.  Use the second procedure if your i.LON 700 is set up as a LON router that is configured with an external network integration tool such as the IzoT Commissioning Tool (CT) or LonMaker Integration Tool.

Self-repeating is used to tie devices for two or more LON networks together in which the NetworkM Integration  tool doesn't know how to provision IP-852 routers. For example, this feature is used to tie LON networks for two or more floors together, or two or more buildings together, so that the head-end software can access the datapoints from multiple floors or buildings.

LON Repeater with a SmartServer

You can replace an i.LON 700 configured as a self-installed LON repeater with a SmartServer.  You can use multiple SmartServers, i.LONs, and third-party IP-852 routers configured as self-installed LON repeaters to connect LON devices on multiple LON FT and TP-1250 channels using a LON IP-852 backbone channel.  By using self-installation, you will not have to use a LON network integration tool to install the LON repeaters.

To replace an i.LON 700 configured as a self-installed LON repeater with a SmartServer, follow these steps:

  1. Change the SmartServer IP address settings on the Configuration page Network Configuration page tab (see Configure Your SmartServer) for the Ethernet LAN or WAN ports you are using to Static IP Address or DHCP.

    Note

Note: Do not leave the IP address interface set to Startup Mode - DHCP with rapid fallback to static.

  2. For SmartServer IoT release prior to 2.7, disable the Startup Mode checkbox.
Verify the IP-852 checkbox is enabled on Verify the SmartServer IP address settings are not configured for Startup Mode.  You can use startup for initial network setup, but it is not suitable for operational use.

  3. Verify IP-852 is enabled as described on the Adding a LON Interface page. For SmartServer IoT release prior to 2.7 Update 1, go to thFeatures Configuration tab.

  4. Reboot the SmartServer.

  5. Add the SmartServer to the IP-852 configuration server.  If you are using the EnOcean IP-852 Config Server.
    When Configuration Server, w
hen all the devices are green, right-click the channel and click update channel Update Channel.

The SmartServer IoT with a single U60 can be used as a direct replacement for an i.LON 700 that is used for IP-852 routing. In this case, you need to provision the IP-852 router and U60 for IP-852 routing.

Configured LON Router with a SmartServer

You can replace an i.LON 700 configured as a LON router with an external LON network integration tool with a SmartServer using the same LON network integration tool.  You can use multiple SmartServers, i.LONs, and third-party IP-852 routers configured with a LON network integration tool to connect LON devices on multiple LON FT and TP-1250 channels using a LON IP-852 backbone channel.  For example, the following figure illustrates a network with multiple IP-852 routers managed by the IzoT Commissioning Tool.

To replace an i.LON 700 configured as a LON router with an external LON network integration tool with a SmartServer, follow these steps:

  2. For SmartServer IoT release prior to 2.7, disable the Startup Mode checkboxVerify the SmartServer IP address settings are not configured for Startup Mode.  You can use startup for initial network setup, but it is not suitable for operational use.

  3. Disable the LON/IP Class A Network Override Standard checkbox on the LON Configuration page LON tab, as described on Adding a LON Interface.

  4. Reboot the SmartServer.

  5. Switch the SmartServer to LON Independent Management Mode (IMM) using the CMS Devices widget - very important.

  6. Verify the IP-852 checkbox is enabled on enabled as described on the Adding a LON Interface page. For SmartServer IoT release prior to 2.7 Update 1, go to Features Configuration tab.

  7. Add the SmartServer to the IP-852 Config Server.
When configuration server.  If you are using the EnOcean IP-852 Configuration Server, when all the devices are green, right-click the channel and click update channel Update Channel.
Perform a replacement in the LNS network for the IP-852 Router.
    Press
  8. Use your network integration tool to replace the i.LON 700 router with your SmartServer router.

  9. When prompted by your network integration tool, press the IP-852 service pin on the Adding a LON Interface page. For SmartServer IoT release prior to 2.7 Update 1, go to Features Configuration tab.
Perform a replacement in the LNS network for the U60 Router.
Press the U60 service pin on the Adding a LON Interface page. For SmartServer IoT release prior to 2.7 Update 1, go to the System Configuration button on the Configuration page LON tab.
