Enabling and Disabling IzoT Router Services

You can enable and disable the following services provided by the IzoT Router:

  • IzoT Server—Provides a server with a RESTful API that you can use to discover and monitor devices, and to support custom Web pages that you develop to interact with your devices. The IzoT Server is disabled by default.

  • RNI—Provides an LNS-compatible remote network interface (RNI). The RNI interface provides legacy support for LNS applications. Workstations and tools based on the IzoT Net Server can communicate with the IzoT Router using LonTalk/IP instead of RNI. The advantage of LonTalk/IP is that multiple LonTalk/IP workstations can be attached to the LAN channel of the IzoT Router, whereas RNI only supports a single workstation client at a time.

Layer 5 RNIs are used by LNS, OpenLNS, and IzoT Net Server tools while the Layer 2 Protocol Analyzer is used for LonScanner. The eth1 option refers to the internal LonTalk/IP network interface. The lon0 – lon4 options refer to one of five U60 network interfaces. If you use a LON RNI, it can only see traffic for an FT channel connected to that specific network interface (i.e., you can’t see the traffic on a different FT channel from the FT channel attached to your selected network interface).

Use Layer 5 RNI – lon0 if you have a simple network with only devices connected to the IzoT Router built-in LON FT channel.

Use Layer 5 RNI – eth1 to communicate on the LAN channel. You can also communicate with devices on LON channels if you install a router between the LonTalk/IP-LAN (IP-70) channel and the other channels. If you make this choice, you will also have to add routers for each LON channel. For each LON channel, add a router with one side attached to the LON channel and the other side attached to the LonTalk/IP-LAN channel.

  • LonTalk Routing—Provides LonTalk/IP routing between the LAN and LON channels.

  • BACnet Routing—Provides BACnet/IP routing between the LAN and LON channels.

  • Factory Reset—Enable or disable holding down the Service/Connect button on boot up to cause the IzoT Router to do a factory reset. Also called the factory default configuration.

  • IP-852 Routing—Provides IP-852 routing between the LonTalk/IP-LAN (IP-70) and IP-852 channels.

  • FT Termination—Provides free topology termination for the LON FT channel that the internal FT interface of the IzoT Router is attached to.

To enable or disable an IzoT Router service, follow these steps:

  1. Open the IzoT Router Network Configuration Web page, following the procedure in Configuring the IzoT Router.

  2. Click Features at the top of the page. There may be a delay of up to a minute while the IzoT Router queries status information from all of the attached network interfaces. The delay will be longer if you have many network interfaces. The following page appears:

  3. Select checkboxes for the services to be enabled, and clear checkboxes for the services to be disabled.

  4. Click Update.

Once you click Update, the checkboxes you have selected may show as unchecked. They will reflect new values once the IzoT Routers read the U60 information.
