Activating Licenses Offline Using the CMS or USB Drive

Once you have retrieved the offline activation file using the License Customer Portal or the License Partner Portal, you can use it to activate the device capacity license either using the SmartServer CMS or the SmartServer USB drive. The sections that follow describe how to do so and consist of the following:

Activating Licenses Offline Using the CMS

To activate licenses offline using the CMS, perform the following steps:

  1. Start the SmartServer CMS as described in Open the SmartServer CMS.

  2. Open the Manage Licenses dialog in the SmartServer CMS.



  3. Click the Add button ().



    The Add License view appears.



  4. Click the DROP FILE HERE area and select the newly generated license file from your computer.



  5. Click ACTIVATE.

    The Manage License dialog appears, and after about 15 seconds, the license that you activated is displayed on the view.



    Click Close to exit the license management operations.

Activating Licenses Offline Using the USB Drive

To activate licenses offline using the USB drive, perform the following steps:

  1. Connect a USB flash drive to your computer where you saved the offline activation file.

  2. Create a folder named lic (case-sensitive) on your USB drive.

  3. Copy the offline activation file to the USB flash drive placing it in the lic folder.

  4. Remove the USB flash drive from your computer and insert it into one of the USB ports on the SmartServer.

    The SmartServer automatically detects the license file on the USB drive and activates it.



    When the SmartServer completes the activation, the SmartServer software adds an .applied extension to the license file name to indicate that the license was activated.
